There is no question that I, the woman who describes herself as having too much junk jewelry and old electronics, regularly suffer from technology-related envy. I always want the latest, greatest, shiniest, fastest – please don't judge me.
So, of course, I was totally bummed when I found out the newest iPhones would have video capability, while my 1 year old phone was only capable of taking photos. Of course the truth is that I don't take videos very often (which explains why my flip is feeling so neglected), so I haven't spent the money upgrading my iPhone.
Now, with the discovery of a free service called qik, I will be able to put off that upgrade even longer because . . . I can take video with my iPhone.
In the clip below I used the qik app to record video from the PBS/Frontline event and concert I attended at SXSW. Instead of storing the video to my phone, it uploaded it directly to my account on the qik site (a bonus for those of us with limited memory since we filled it with pictures of our kids and podcasts). I also have the choice of uploading to my YouTube or Facebook accounts, and setting the privacy (just in case you don't want that video of your kid after his visit to the dentist available for the world to see).
As you can see, the quality of the video is "iffy" and the music overwhelmed the microphone, but for quick videos on the run, qik does the trick. And it will keep me from dropping more money on an iPhone - at least for this month.
Do you take video with your iPhone? How does the video compare?
